The "honey" of Hainan

In May 2014, my husband was unwell. Thinking of his numerous contributions and sacrifices to our family over the past two decades, I immediately decided to embark on a "sudden trip". It would be more accurate to call it a "honeymoon-like trip" rather than a regular trip.

With the help of my lovely travel assistant, "Zhai Sister", I booked a "five-day four-night" self-guided tour in Sanya, Hainan through the "Ctrip" website's "flight + hotel" option. Together with my husband, we began our "honeymoon-like" trip to Hainan.

On the evening of May 17th, we took the Air China flight CA4375 and set off after a 23-minute delay. Fortunately, my seat was on the right side of the window, allowing me to witness the changing of the sky. The plane was flying at an altitude of thousands of miles, and looking out, the white clouds really seemed to be passing through the clouds like white lotuses. The sky was so blue, and the clouds were so adorable. The bright sunlight shone into the cabin, making the passengers ask me to lower my sunshade. As the flight time changed, the sky gradually darkened. Someone noticed that there was a sunset in the sky, and I quickly opened the sunshade. A streak of sunset hung in the sky, which immediately reminded me of the phrase "the blood-red setting sun". Such a beautiful scene made some passengers forget they were in the air and took out cameras, even mobile phones, to take pictures. My husband was no exception. Seeing this scene, the flight attendant panicked and urgently asked everyone to turn off their devices, informing them that such behavior was very dangerous. So some accidents are caused by ignorance. The following photo was captured in a dangerous situation.

Time passed quickly. Around 8:40 p.m., the plane landed over the city of Sanya. Looking out of the plane, the night sky of Sanya was much more bustling than it was ten years ago, reminding me of a lyric: "The night falls, red lights, green lights, and neon lights shine brightly." When collecting luggage, I was still wondering why the airport pick-up driver hadn't sent me a message yet. Little did I know that as soon as we stepped out of the gate, we saw the airport pick-up driver of Ctrip holding a pick-up sign with my name on it. After waiting for a few minutes, our family of three took a car to the hotel where we were staying. Here, I would like to give a thumbs-up to Ctrip's service.

Around 10:30 p.m., after completing the check-in procedures at the "Hetai Sea View Hotel", the front desk informed us that a government regulation fund of 9 yuan per person per night needed to be added. This point seemed not explicitly stated in the confirmation form, but it was a minor flaw. Fortunately, it wasn't a big deal, so we didn't bother to argue about it.

After entering the room, I felt it wasn't as good as I had imagined. It was close to the road, and it was a bit noisy. Fortunately, my husband and I had already gotten used to the noise of the square dance ladies, and we had developed the ability to resist interference. We soon fell asleep.

When I woke up at 6 a.m. on the 18th, I pulled open the curtains and found that it was already bright outside. I hurriedly woke up my husband and asked him to look at what the dawn of Dafenghai looked like. Here, I would like to thank "Zi Xie Zi" for customizing this vacation for me. It gave me the opportunity to stay in a 270-degree sea view room. As soon as I opened the curtains, "The Dragon Palace of the East Sea" was right in front of me, and the "Dafenghai Tourism Area" was right beneath my feet.

After my husband finished his bath, we took the camera and began our "beach stroll". The early morning at Dachenghai was very peaceful, with very few tourists and strong waves. There were warning signs on several beaches saying "There is hidden current. Do not swim in the sea". This disappointed my husband, who loves swimming.

Walking with the waves, my husband showed a lot of childishness. Sometimes he would catch the waves and sometimes he would pick up stones and throw them into the sea, as if he were back in his childhood. I asked the beautiful lady beside us to take pictures for us, to capture the funny photo of us from twenty years ago.

Compared to the Great East Sea I saw ten years ago, the current one has not undergone significant changes in terms of the seawater. However, there are more algae floating on the sandy beach and a stronger commercial atmosphere along the shore.

At around 8 o'clock in the morning, we followed the coconut grove path along the shore, passed through the lobby of the Yintai Hotel and returned to our hotel to start our breakfast. The variety of breakfast items was not very abundant. The market price of 88 yuan was somewhat unreasonably high, but the basic nutrition was still guaranteed.

After breakfast, we took the No. 2 bus along Liberation Road to the supermarket in Mingzhu Square and had a look around. The variety of seafood and干货 was quite rich, but the prices were unclear. Since we didn't plan to do any shopping for this trip, we took the bus back along the original route and bought a 12-yuan tangerine and 16-yuan five lychees as our lunch. The total cost for breakfast was 36 yuan.

At noon, the Great East Sea was deserted on the road, except for the occasional sound of passing cars. The only noise was the waves crashing against the sandy beach. I was happily writing my travelogue on the jade-like chair by the hotel window, occasionally glancing out at the scattered tourists outside. I felt the comfort brought by the sea-view room, being able to enjoy the sea view while also tasting the beautiful women in swimsuits from both China and abroad. Unconsciously, I fell asleep, and when I woke up, it was already past 3 p.m. in the afternoon.

After everything was prepared as per the pre-planned itinerary, we boarded the No. 8 bus at the Luheng Road exit and headed towards the "Coconut Dream Corridor" along Sanya Bay Road. Under the guidance of the bus driver, we got off at "Beautiful New Coast Community" and began our "Sanya Sunset" journey.

Upon arriving at the destination, we discovered that this section of the "Coconut Dream Corridor" was under construction, and many facilities and attractions were not yet open to tourists. We had to walk along the sand ridge to the beach. Fortunately, the beach of Sanya Bay did not disappoint us. The sand was so soft, the sea water was so calm, the waves were so peaceful, and there were so few tourists, as if it was truly our private beach. The fishermen fishing in the sea were so calm and focused, not disturbed by the sound of the waves or the laughter of the beach visitors.

Looking at the setting sun gradually sinking in the distance, stepping on the soft sand, we walked slowly towards the west side of Sanya Bay, expecting the sunset to slowly fade away from our view. We savored the poetry and charm brought by the "Sanya Sunset". Unfortunately, the weather was not cooperative. There was always a cloud covering the setting sun, as if playing a joke on us, leaving us with a bit of regret and giving us a reason to come again next time.

This afternoon's afternoon brought us many wonderful memories. We left records of time on the sand and took photos and videos. Facing the sea, I sang a song, indulging in the taste of being a singer for a while, and expressing my heartfelt words.

At 7 p.m., we took a bus and arrived at the highly popular "Bearded Man Seafood Processing Shop" online. To be honest, the environment and the taste were really not satisfactory. However, the raw materials were still very fresh. This dinner, along with the bus fare, cost a total of 307 yuan.

The time went back to May 19th. I booked a comfortable carpooling service "Wu Zhaizhou Island Day Tour" on Ctrip. According to the previous agreement, the driver would pick us up at the lobby of "Xiangtou Yingtai Hotel" at 8:40 a.m. After the driver picked up all the passengers on time, he asked us to bring our luggage and set off for "Wu Island". After a nearly 40-minute ride, we arrived at the pier and waited briefly before boarding the ferry to "Wu Island". To be honest, after getting on this small boat, it was really bumpy. No wonder the tourist notice advised the elderly and those with weak constitutions to be cautious when choosing to go to the island. After about 30 minutes of sailing, we successfully reached the island. Then, the driver and tour guide informed us that we would take the return ferry at 3:20 p.m. and return to Yalong Bay at 4 p.m., ending the day's itinerary.

To be honest, compared to 10 years ago, there are more tourists on Wu Zhaizhou Island now. Although it is the off-season for tourism and it's a Monday, there are still many tourists. As soon as we entered the gate, we hurriedly took pictures by the "Lover's Bridge" to leave a memorable photo. This indicates that we have visited this place. Then, we hid under the shade of the trees on the shore to enjoy the gentle sea breeze and discussed the next itinerary. After a brief discussion, we decided to first walk along the shore path, take a look at the sea scenery, take some photos, and then take the sightseeing bus to visit the recommended attractions when we were tired. It turned out that our choice was correct.

Around 1 p.m., we took the sightseeing bus on the island, heading towards the scenic spots that visitors couldn't reach on foot. To be honest, the sightseeing bus was worth taking. But I reminded my friends to buy the 80-yuan ticket for the sightseeing bus. The "private customization" scene was not necessary to visit because even if you went there, you would still have to pay an additional 48-yuan tea fee to enter. After getting on the sightseeing bus, led by the driver and tour guide, the bus traveled on the rugged coastal path. The waves hit the rocks, splashing huge waves. It really gave you a feeling of "trembling waves crashing against the shore". No wonder the scenic area management didn't allow visitors to enter by walking. One reason was economic benefits, but I think it was more for the safety of the tourists. Along the way, we passed by "The Line Between Sea and Sky", "Sunrise Rock", "Mazu Pavilion", and "Private Customization". It took about half an hour. The sunlight on the island was extremely strong. Most of the exposed parts of my body were applied with high-factor sunscreen, but I overlooked a small area on my chest. So, I only realized that I was sunburned at night. Here I remind you that sunscreen is very useful. Don't forget it!

The Chaotong driver was extremely punctual. He dropped us off at the "Marriott Resort Hotel" that we had booked online at the appointed time. The hotel staff were very friendly and helped us carry our luggage to the front desk. They also presented us with a necklace with the hotel's logo, chilled plum soup, and a cool towel. Just as other reviewers had commented, although the hotel's hardware facilities were a bit outdated, the service details were still quite good.

Following the guide's instructions, we reached the room and took a short rest. Then, we booked the "point-to-point" shuttle bus that we had previously reserved online with Ctrip. The Ctrip driver arrived at the "Global City Hotel" on the scheduled time exactly as promised. We enjoyed the "BBQ" that we had团购ed earlier. The dining environment was good, but the taste was truly mediocre. After we had eaten two small plates of steamed shrimp and two bowls of tangerine peel green bean soup, we basically lost our appetite. We watched a performance for a while. At around 8 p.m., the driver we had reserved with Ctrip picked us up and brought us back to the hotel. The day's itinerary came to an end.

Back in the morning of the 20th, we got up together and immediately went to the "private beach" of the hotel. My husband completely ignored the "no swimming" flag erected on the beach and rushed to the sea to show off his swimming skills. However, as he was over 50 years old, after swimming for more than 20 minutes, he clearly felt exhausted and had to return to the shore to rest.

According to the experience shared by the previous netizens, our breakfast would start around 9:30. The variety was quite diverse. There seemed to be no seafood or similar items, but every day there would be a chef offering a sample dish for us to taste. That day, the gift was "smoked salmon", which was my favorite. The "Empress Mango" was also very delicious and worth recommending. Also, I would like to tell the netizens a little secret. If you like the offered food, just tell the waiter and they will give you more. There won't be any awkwardness. After having breakfast, it was almost 11 o'clock. We packed up our luggage and wandered around the hotel's courtyard and the activity center opposite to it, taking photos, enjoying the scenery. However, the Yalong Bay in the vicinity was too hot around noon. Within half an hour, we went back to our room to rest. The idea of visiting "Yalong Bay Forest Park" quickly vanished. As soon as I got into bed, I fell asleep immediately. When I woke up, it was already 4 o'clock in the afternoon. I immediately called Ctrip to reserve the "point-to-point" shuttle bus to "Baihua Valley". A few minutes later, we arrived at "Baihua Valley". In the afternoon, it was very quiet here with few tourists. After wandering around for a while, according to the list of special merchants provided by Ctrip, we chose a restaurant with "Wenchang Chicken" for dinner. After discounting, we paid 176 yuan for the meal. To be honest, the Hainan cuisine was too salty, and the "Wenchang Chicken" didn't have any special flavor either.

Around 6 p.m., we left "Flower Valley" and crossed a small path, beginning our "hotel search" journey. Following the east-to-west order, we first arrived at "Heavenly Domain Resort Hotel", and my impression was that the hotel was large and very popular. Next was "Redwood Beach Resort Hotel", passing by the "First Sea Line Restaurant" of this hotel by the sea. It seemed that the environment was good, but I had not done any group buying before, so I didn't pay much attention to it. However, the netizens' reviews were not high. Personally, I think the sister who wants a romantic atmosphere can still give it a try. As we passed the beach from the back of the hotel, I saw a couple taking wedding photos. I suddenly remembered that today was the special day of "5.20", so here I wish all those who are seeking love to finally get married. Then we went to the previously familiar "MGM Resort Hotel". The sculpture in the middle of the hotel lobby was very modern, but it seemed not very practical, and there were very few people sitting there. The passage from the lobby to the beach was very beautiful, especially the golden lion sculptures on both sides were very imposing. After leaving the hotel lobby, we walked along the road in front of it to reach the front door of "Sheraton Resort Hotel". The square in front of the hotel was directly opposite the "Yalong Bay Golf Club". Due to the late time, we didn't go inside to visit. The design of the lobby of this hotel was quite unique. I couldn't tell whether it was "Chinese style" or "Japanese style", especially there was a large water surface behind the lobby, as if bringing the seawater into the hotel, giving people a cool feeling. The "tycoon feast" held on the garden lawn near the beach was even more attractive, and it made me stop to watch for a while. My feeling was that "being rich is really great". Back at the hotel, it was already nearly 8 p.m. in the evening. We played for a while in the double-decker swimming pool of the hotel and then went back to our rooms to rest.

After getting up on the 21st morning, as usual, I accompanied my husband to go swimming first and then had breakfast. There were many people swimming that morning, including quite a few foreigners. There were also more women wearing bikinis. Tourists with children were also present. Only then did I find swimming a bit interesting. The danger wasn't too great. Previously, when my husband swam alone, I was really a bit worried.

After breakfast, we packed our luggage and completed the check-out procedures. Then we continued to visit the places in the hotel that we hadn't seen before. We took a nap on a hammock near the beach. The weather in May wasn't very hot. With the sound of the waves, we fell asleep. When we woke up, it was almost 3 PM. We returned to the lobby, tidied up briefly, and took the free shuttle bus provided by Ctrip to enter the Sanya urban area. After depositing our luggage, we bought some local specialties at "Pearl Square" and had dinner at "KFC". Then we took the No. 8 bus directly to "Phoenix Airport" to end our "honeymoon" trip in Hainan.

Although this 5-day 4-night vacation was short, we had a great time. By summarizing the experiences and lessons of this trip and providing a few tips for netizens to refer to.

1. For middle-aged and elderly friends traveling, booking a trip through Ctrip is a good choice, with excellent service;

2. If staying in Yalong Bay, be sure to book the "point-to-point" bus service, which is convenient, economical, and saves time;

3. High-power sunscreen must be brought;

4. Before traveling, try to group-buy afternoon tea for the hotel, enjoy the pleasant life brought by the sea breeze in the hotel lobby;

5. Reserve the gift package activities included in the Ctrip itinerary, which not only allows you to taste the hotel's cuisine but also saves a little money.
